2048 — join the numbers to reach the 2048 tile
Swipe the board — or use the arrow keys.
How to play 2048
The board is four squares by four squares. Swipe in any direction and every tile slides as far as it can that way. When two tiles with the same number touch, they join into one tile worth double. Reach a tile of 2048 and you win — but you can keep going for a higher score.
- Swipe up, down, left or right — on a computer, use the arrow keys or W, A, S and D.
- All tiles move together, so every swipe changes the whole board.
- Two tiles with the same number join: 2 and 2 make 4, 4 and 4 make 8, and so on.
- After each move a new 2 or 4 appears in a free square.
- The game ends when the board is full and no two neighbouring tiles match.
Tips for a higher score
- Keep your biggest tile in one corner and never move it out. Most strong players pick a corner and build around it.
- Use mostly two directions. If your corner is bottom-left, swipe down and left, and only swipe right or up when you have no other move.
- Build a row in order along the edge next to your corner — for example 256, 128, 64, 32 — so the row collapses in one move.
- Do not chase small merges in the middle of the board. They break up your rows.
- Think one move ahead: before you swipe, check where the new tile could land.
